Because of what we have been seeing since time immemorial, it’s very easy for us to equate car or motorcycle commercials with either of the following: race car drivers besting one another on the race track or sophisticated, sexy ladies who are either hitching for a ride or just plain moseying around wearing sexy clothes inside top-down vehicles. However, Honda is changing the way car or motorcycles are perceived with a series of idents or documentaries that will be shown on Channel 4.
Actually, this year’s campaign is just a continuation of last year’s since Honda honchos realised how successful it has been for them. In these series of idents, Honda takes on the road less travelled by employing the services, not of big-name celebrities or skimpily-clad women, but of ordinary people who rely on Honda vehicles to help them through their day-to-day chores and activities. This is a very smart move given that they are aiming to sell their vehicles to the general public and not just a specific group of people.
This year’s 4-part series commences with Philippa, a breeder of alpaca in Oxfordshire, who sees to the needs of the herd using her Honda ATV. This is quite nifty, right? To her, this is just her way of getting her chores done. But to others, this is something worthy of praise and deserving to be caught on camera:
Honda actually has an online hub where you can watch in full and learn more about Philippa and others like her who found resourceful uses for their Honda vehicles at www.honda.co.uk/stories. What’s even better is that they have a section they call “Take Part” were people are encouraged to upload their own photos, videos or anecdotes which depict how they have put their Honda vehicles to smart uses. The best one will be chosen by W+K and will be turned into a mini-documentary and included in Honda idents. So, are you ready to upload those videos?
